Auburn, NY: A Good Place to Live in the Finger Lakes Region User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 14, 2018) I bounced around the Finger Lakes region of New York state for a decade or two before I ended up in Auburn about 7 years ago. I feel proud to live in such an interesting place, rich with history and character.

One of the most interesting places in this town is Harriet Tubman's
...Read More house. She was a leader on the "underground railroad," a secret network that tried to help slaves escape to safety from the states that still allowed slavery at that time. Currently this place is a museum.

Bring near to Owasco Lake and Seneca River, it's a great place for those who enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing. The scenery is beautiful. If you drive around, you'll find many parks and even a few wineries!

I wouldn't say there's a great selection of restaurants in this town. It's more of a diner type town. Nightlife is not there so much aside from standard type pub and bar settings. There are 2 playhouses here: Merry Go Round Playhouse and Auburn Public Theater. I'm happy to live in a place that supports the arts and also has a strong working-class element. Read Less
