I lived in the Southwest Anaheim area in California for many years including my childhood years. There are plenty of activities for locals to enjoy. Although the tourists can be plentiful during the summer months, other times of the year there is not such a large amount of people ...Read More
. Being an Anaheim native, I love Disneyland. I loved being close to Downtown Disney and Knotts Berry Farm where I spent many fun nights with my friends growing up. Knotts Berry Farm offered a special $10 rate for people who entered after 5pm.
Anaheim Plaza is a shopping center that has just been rebuilt in the last five years. There are local restaurants as well as chain restaurants. The convention center is nearby, so there are many dining options available for almost any type of food. My favorite restaurant is Marri's Pizza on Katella Ave. They serve the freshest pizza I have tasted. The area is great for couples just starting out as well as families. The school system is fantastic and really works with families when they are going through anything difficult. The libraries in the area offer free reading time and activities for kids every week.
The downside is that most of the homes are old, and some neighborhood streets are a little more run down. There are some housing developments in the area that were built in the early 1980's and these are among the newest in this area. I personally love Anaheim, because it feels like a small community within a big suburban area. Most natives like myself have a passion for our home baseball team The Angels, although they have recently been dubbed The Los Angeles Angels, Anaheim residents know the team is truly in Anaheim and originated as the Anaheim Angels. Many hockey fans like to watch the Anaheim Ducks and their games are played locally at the Honda Center. There are many concerts that play at this venue as well as downtown Disney House of Blues. The noise from the fireworks can be a bit disturbing at times, because they are set off every night at 9:30pm, but I feel it is a small price to pay for living near the Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland. This is truly one of the best places to raise a family. There are many perks to living in the Anaheim area, including discounts for the theme parks in the area.
