Only my opinion about Alturas 1 rating By Gypsy ( May 05, 2011) After 8 years of experience in Alturas, I would say: If you enjoy nature, do not care for shopping malls and slowler pace of living, this might be the place for you. If cold weather affect your health or mood, you might want to reconsider. It is not a good location for people ...Read More who need medical care. Specialists and better hospital care are 100 to 180 miles away. It takes a long time to get accepted by the old timers of the area. Jobs are very limited.
I do not have children but I have heard that the school system is fine. Social activities seem very limited unless you care to join the Elk's Lodge or the Red Hatter ladies and their lunches. Read Less
