There are a lot of bike trails, so outdoor lovers have it made, but be prepared for soggy outdoor adventures a good part of the year. There is a lot to love about Sequim but culture isn't one of them. I came back home to the PNW from San Antonio and realized pretty quickly I'd ...Read More
gotten used to a vibrant city with lots of things to do fairly cheaply. After a few years back in Sequim I was shocked at how dead it seemed in contrast and regret moving back here. Rural life has a number of drawbacks so this isn't just Sequim
1. It can be cliquish 2. There is little diversity of opinion, culture and religion 3. Medical care is a serious issue for many people I know that have to go to Seattle, a difficult process to get specialist care. 4. It is not that cheap to live here for what you give up to live here. 5. Small pond means less choices for services like builders, doctors, dentists and so on. 6. It is a car dependent area, public transportation is improving but you must have a car
As another reviewer noticed, it is isolated and if your family lives in other parts of the US, you are locked on a peninsula that requires a long drive to SeaTac airport. A friend here survives the isolation by lots of trips abroad which isn't practical for many.

When the Hood Canal bridge has closed down due to weather or there is snow people new residents begin to realize how extremely isolated this area actually is. 5 years ago I moved to Sequim thrilled with the natural beauty of mountains, ocean, and the cheap cost of living comp ...Read More
ared to Seattle or larger towns in the PNW.
I didn't know anyone here and began to spend much time alone on the many trails of this paradise. This is not an easy place to form a community unless you are married. At first that was fine. I've always made friends in the past and assumed I would do so here as well. But people rarely made eye contact or said hello and quite often if I visited churches unless you were part of a couple there was seldom any welcome.
The town turns off the lights after 6 pm and pretty much closes up. All of this was endurable until I had a medical issue that required a specialist. My medical referrals are all out of town requiring long drives. When you don't feel well it is exhausting. The one specialist that was local was so horrible I decided if that was my choice it was time to leave.
Sequim is great for certain people. There is a good elementary school and if you have children and a partner it is fantastic if you like a rural isolated life. The people I know from some volunteer work that have a lot of money to travel seem to do well here as well. But I've met a few folks on their way out one that couldn't take the loneliness One told me she'd been here 20 years and it was the unfriendliest place she'd ever lived and that she couldn't take it anymore. She was leaving to save her sanity. I get it now. If you like Walmart and box stores, the shopping is fine. If your whole social life consists of wondering the aisles for Ross its miserable and God help you if you need a medical specialist and have limited income
