While it was once more of a vibrant and commerce-driven suburb, Painesville has seen itself in steady decline over recent years. The housing market is below average, with most homeowners selling or renting to lower income families, which is unfortunately a recipe for the decline of a community.

The city doesn't have many options when it comes to shopping, dining, or nightlife. There are no malls or major shopping centers, dining is sub-par with most restaurants in the area being franchises, and nightlife is just virtually nonexistent. Painesville has a small town feel in that people who grew up there are closely knit together and not very friendly to outsiders.

Overall, Painesville may be a good option for those looking for cheaper options for housing but still want to be close to the city. However, if you're looking to settle down and/or raise a family, you're better off searching elsewhere. Read Less
