We moved to Niceville after 20 years in a far western suburb of Houston. We moved for the location, small panhandle Florida town, close to the beautiful Emerald Coast beach with an upper middle class conservative values society. After 15 months we are still amazed at how nice the majority of people are. There is very little traffic. People are so friendly and courteous and they enjoy life. Yes, the shopping and restaurants are limited but all you have to do is go across the bridge to Destin and you have virtually everything you want. The beach is only 15 minutes from our door and we escape all the tourists by living on the other side of the mid bay bridge. In 15 months my wife and I have dozens of friends when we had less than 6 after 20 years in the Houston area. It’s a slower pace lifestyle but if you want to lower your blood pressure and frustration level Niceville is the place for you. Cost of living is also quite low. We purchased a 3000 sqft house with an oversized lot in a Resort community for 315k.
My family visited Niceville in 2017 to potentially relocate there. It only took 2 days to realize it was not a fit...for amenities, beach, and restaurants one must drive to Destin with an $8 toll round trip. Unfortunately, we found that there is not much to do in Niceville, FL.
