Mississauga, ON
Mississauga is the largest suburb of Toronto and the sixth largest city in the country. It sits just west of Toronto, with much of its growth being connected to its location. Many Saugans are commuters, though Mississauga also has a large industry of its own. Numerous Fortune 500 companies are based here, as are a number of Canadian head offices. It also happens to be home to the country’s largest airport; Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Living in Mississauga is great, as there are a number of beautiful communities within the city. Some of these are historic neighbourhoods, like Port Credit and Streetsville, both of which are home to some quant bars, restaurants and boutiques. Still, it is the city centre that sees the most action, with its numerous restaurants, bars and entertainment centres. Not to mention the enormous Square One Shopping Centre. This area is also the centre of Mississauga’s transportation, being home to both the City Centre Transit Terminal and the Square One Bus Terminal. The former is the main terminus for local buses, while the latter is where inter-city buses can be found.
Mississauga is extremely multicultural, with over 50 percent of the population speaking a language other than English. It is extremely family-friendly, having over 150 schools for all ages. It is also home to the University of Toronto Mississauga, the Mississauga Academy of Medicine and Sheridan College. The average age in the city is around 35, which means there are lots of young families here. Another great thing about living in Mississauga is that it has a great arts community. This also means that there are a number of great annual festivals, though any Mississauga resident will tell you that Carassauga is the one not to miss.
In general, Mississauga is a fairly safe city, though common sense should always be used after dark. As a result, there is a bit of a nightlife scene here, with much of this being close to the airport. If you are looking for things to keep you busy on the weekend, play Mississauga guide and visit some of its most notable places, like Playdium, the Art Gallery of Mississauga and Wahoosh Falls. You can also head to one of its main shopping malls, golf courses or parks, or take a stroll along the waterfront.
