I grew up in Kanab and wouldn't live there again for anything. If you have a progressive bone in your body you won't fit in. This is an extremely tight-knit, conservative town. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the only "liberal" thing about it (and they're still viewed with suspi ...Read More

There are a few ratings that are misleading and others are plain wrong. First, I have lived in Kanab for 6+ years. The "F" for weather is ridiculous. To be honest, the weather is one of Kanab's best features. The winters can get cold and there can be snow, but mostly it is pretty ...Read More
moderate. The idea that the temperature would EVER hit -27 is absurd. The coldest I have ever experienced here was about -6 and that was very unusual. Winters are mostly 30's 20's and sometimes teens. Summers get pretty hot in July - upper 90's, sometimes 100, but again that is not the usual.
As for "amenities" - I don't think of McDonalds and Wendy's as amenities. There are only a few decent restaurants in town and one of those is very pricey. The "groceries" are only at 2 stores and they are both smallish and nearly identical to one another (unless you want to count the stuff available at the gas station). Fruits & vegetables are fresh and pretty reasonable, but the selections are very limited. Almost everything else is way higher than anywhere else. If you want to shp a a real supermarket, the closest are at least 65 miles away. There is no other shopping unless you want to browse in the one thrift store, the one hardware/lumber store (there is another store of this type but it is more of a farm-supply place), or the Family Dollar store.
There is not much entertainment except for whatever locals are available and they are sometimes mediocre. The whole tawn is basically closed on Sundays except for gas or for 1 grocer. Families who are completely involved with their kids and family member can do fine here, but it isn't for people who would like some entertainment and recreation other than the outdoor activities (which are quite wonderful) when the weather is too hot or cold.
Be careful with this town - it isn't a terrible place, but gets pretty boring after a while. Don't jump into the idea of moving here.
