Let me preface by saying: my neighbors were awesome and my house was amazing, but the commute and several other things made living in Franklin not worth it.
Cons: Not a good town to live in, overall. It's very segregated. blacks and whites live on different sides of the track.

t's filled with litter and not very clean.
No ameneties to speak of.
Travel to other Hampton Roads cities with ameneties is an hour or more. Maybe 30 to Suffolk.
School district is poor quality and lacks resources. People with means pay to bus their kids to Southhampton schools.
Poverty is rampant. Minorities, of course, are most affected.
That stinky papermill makes the town smell like a sewer and keeps the town trapped in the past.
The smell would permeate the schools my kids went to daily. My children said it made their lungs burn. The smoke from the mill gave me palpitations and sent me to the hospital ER, at least once. It should be illegal to subject children to that air quality. The mill makes it hard to enjoy the outdoors.

I lived here for a year, only because I took a job in Chesapeake. I moved from the Charlotte, NC area. This move was a major mistake.

t it wasn't worth the cons:
Cons:
-The two hour long daily commute.
- The town is filthy. The residents litter. I think that's part of Hampton Roads culture though.
-That stinky papermill makes the town smell like a sewer, which made it difficult to enjoy the outdoors. The smoke would give me major heart palpitations and made my kids lungs burn when they inhaled. I ended up hospitalized once because of it.
-Awful school district. My kids learned nothing. The white people would bus their kids to South Hampton schools.
-It's an "other side of the tracks" town is very segregated. Whites on one side, blacks on the other and of course blacks have the worst of it - the awful schools and they live closest to the toxic mill.
I don't know how this is legal to subject children to these living conditions. Needless to say, there is
-lots of poverty.
-Ameneties are not a B. It's an F. The town has basic box stores like Walmart and Lowe's and fast food.
-Commuting is not a breeze. 30 mins to Suffolk and an hour or better to area cities with ameneties.
-Town is still stuck in the past.
It bears repeating: That mill that they hold on to is keeping them in the stone ages. It's like West Virginia and the coal mines.
