Some of the best areas in Charleston include Downtown Square, site of the Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Richardsonian Romanesque courthouse and the surrounding restaurants. The Downtown Square courthouse is where Lincoln practiced law. If you visit one of the surrounding restaurants and ask one of our residents about the history, they will be more than glad to tell you all the hidden facts discovered about Abe Lincoln. Including the story of him climbing down the building of the courthouse from the second story during a voting debate.
Of course, if you walk in to a restaurant it is likely that they will immediately know you are from out of town. Charleston is a small community where everyone knows each other.
