Beaverton High School is known for its commitment to tradition. Founded in 1902, it is one of the oldest schools in the Metro League, but that does not mean that it is outdated. Recently refurbished and currently undergoing further improvements, the building still maintains its original character. Within these halls, students can find many traditions that have been passed down throughout the decades. The most known tradition is the Beaverton High School 'Rhythm B's.' A dance team modeled after the New York City Rockettes, they are known for their high kicks, splits, and synchronization. Established in 1958, they are approaching their 60th year. Many of their costumes and routines have been passed down for over 40 years, making them unique in comparison to other teams. The academics at Beaverton are excellent. The school houses a fully equipped 'Health Careers' center, a career pathway that specializes in health related careers. Students involved in the pathway, including those from across the district who travel daily to attend courses, are given opportunities as Seniors to intern under doctors, nurses, and dentists, at hospitals and health centers around Portland and Beaverton. Teachers add to the excellence of Beaverton's academics. Every teacher is fully dedicated to providing their students the best high school education possible, and it can be found that every teacher genuinely cares for the students that come through their classes. The administration is made up of a stellar team of leaders. The principle, Dr. Anne Erwin, has put time and thought into the leadership of this school. She is always open to suggestions, recommendations, and conductive criticism. Her support staff of vice principles, counselors, and school resource officers, are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They too genuinely care about the success and well being of every student that walks through the doors of Beaverton, and will set aside almost anything in order to help. The Beaverton High School sports programs are sometimes underestimated by the surrounding schools, but we always turn it out in the end. For the past two years, the boys varsity basketball team have been the Metro League Champions. For the past two years, both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams have gone on to compete at the state level against some of the best teams in Oregon. In 2016, the boys varsity lacrosse team became the state champions. Overall, Beaverton athletics have seen many successes within recent years, and it is projected that the success will continue.Overall, Beaverton High school is an incredible school, and I would highly recommend it.
