This town is horrendous. I cannot figure out why they think they are so important, as they wouldn't even exist if the college was not here. Just another worthless 40,000 dot on the map without anything to do. The residential neighborhoods literally make you pay $400+ per year to ...Read More
park on the street outside your own house between the 3AM and 3PM, even though the streets are constantly empty and their is no demand for parking even during the oddly timed free hours. Which is an especially stupid policy considering the neighborhood was build before people owned automobiles and therefor the homes have little to no driveways or garages. Ticket writers come by three to four times a day. This town is completely backwards, no one in their right mind would live here. There is absolutely nothing of interest to do, but for the cost of living you'd think you were in a hub of a major city. Save your time and skip Urbana, IL altogether.

I lived here for a year and the property taxes are higher then California! I was living in a 1900 square foot home for 4500 a year property tax! One morning I was walking my dog about 5 in the morning and I ran into a young man who was obviously high on something who accosted me. ...Read More
My dog was super friendly so he was no help and I saw a man peeking out his window who then drew the curtains. I had to fight off this man and run to my house. Its all rented out to students so expect lots of noise and parties and police. Great place to be a single college student but if you have children I would look elsewhere.

I was born and raised in Chicago Illinois. 2 years ago, I moved from Chicago to an area called Urbana. With only two years of living here, I absolutely love it here. Though it may get chilly here, I love walking along the streets in this community especially during the season of ...Read More
Fall. There are so many great aspects of living in this area that include the offered amenities, the cost of living, as well as the quality of education that each child or student in general receives. Like every area, there are also drawbacks to living in an area. In Urbana, these drawbacks include the rate of crime as well as the weather.
I am a work at home mom. What I love about my current neighborhood is the fact that I can walk my children to school every morning. The school is only 7 minutes walking from my house. I love the school that my 2 kids attend. They are currently 6 and 8 years old and already are able to communicate partly to me in Spanish. The music program is also excellent at this school. Both of my children are enrolled in orchestra. Another great aspect of this area is that the cost of groceries is extremely low in addition to the cost of gas. I tend to buy by groceries at a day to day rate which is sometimes cheaper and I am able to pick out better produce.
The downside to living in this area is the rate of crime. I would insist to keep all valuables out of the car at night due to the higher theft rate. I would also insist to install a security system just in case of emergencies to ensure that your kids are safe from harm.
