Plainly, Simply, Average 2.5 rating By TheGoodLife ( Mar 04, 2021) Overall, Temple is an average place to live. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a relatively safe community with decent shopping and dining options. However, the infrastructure is a headache and the ensuing traffic seems to never go away. It's not the place to slow down or meet peo ...Read More ple with the hustle and bustle of the hospital, transient military personnel who commute to Fort Hood, and an otherwise predominately older population. Recreation opportunities are sparse, save for a few decent parks. If you're looking for more to do outside of work head to nearby Belton. Read Less
Recent Temple Resident 4 rating By QueenB ( Mar 15, 2020) It is important to point out that like any city, there is a good part and a developing part to Temple. The part that is in the Belton ISD is the nice side. The side that is apart of Temple ISD is improving. Temple has all of the amenities that a big city would have. It does not h ...Read More ave a night life scene. It's more of a family oriented town. I like that it is diverse, and the people are generally nice. Belton ISD is the better of the 2 school systems if you have children. Temple is growing, and it is developing it's downtown. In addition, it has a local community college, Temple College, and it about 25-30 from Kileen, TX, which has a local community college and a branch of Texas A&M. Temple is also only 60 minutes away from Austin and about 45 minutes away from Waco, if you want to experience night life, large scale shopping, and other activities. Read Less

This city is rated 96% above other U.S. cities. We have all the main restaurants, not sure what they are looking for from a city of our size. I will keep looking for these rednecks since I have yet to come across any of them! I will also add there are over 71,000 people in this city, how would we ever know you are an outsider so we can give you a dirty look? I think the dirty look comment from the visitor deserves a LOL! Rotten experience with Scott and White 1 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 31, 2018) My wife had polio in 1954 as a 4 year old. As an adult she became aware that her physical condition had begun to deteriorate. She went to doctors in Austin, TX, Round Rock, TX, and Charleston, SC who provided her with medications to relieve the intense pain, shaky hands and oth ...Read More er conditions relating to the latter effects of the disease.Because my grandfather had a good experience with Scott and White, my wife and I sought them out as our health provider in the Temple, TX community.Wow, was I ever mistaken. Something bad has happened there. If you have condition considered to be "out-of-the-ordinary" like PPS (post-polio syndrome) that will throw them for a big loop. They will not prescribe pain and other medications for pain or sleep aids that are outside CDC guidelines. And one physician told us that she had a "personal" problem prescribing the meds my wife needed and had been prescribed by other docs for over 10 years. PPS, as I mentioned is degenerative, and she continues to suffer from the latter effects of the condition. But now, in cowtown Temple and cowtown "attitude" Scott and White, we can no longer make her comfortable and she must suffer. She did not ask for polio, nor did she ask for PPS.I find this a deplorable set of circumstances and totally unprofessional that an organization devoted to health like S&W is so mainline, by-the-book that they cannot make my wife's life comfortable for the remainder of her life on this planet.Other stuff:1. You rarely can talk to the person you need to speak with.2. You most certainly cannot speak directly with anyone in management.3. The switchboard will ask you if you have a complaint and route you directly to patient relations. They were never any help.4. Watch out for doctors who have a "personal" problem with medications.5. Don't expect them to think outside the box. If you have something that falls in the normal range of human disease, you may be Ok. Otherwise, STEER CLEAR of them. Our consensus of the S&W experience is -(minus)10. Beware!!!! Read Less
Living in Temple 0 rating By BDCornell ( Mar 25, 2017) My husband and I moved to Temple after I joined him in retirement durning the summer of 2016. We wanted to be within a 100 mile radius of Austin , Texas because we have family there. We looked at several towns around central Texas and Temple was our winner. With our research it b ...Read More eat out Waco, Bastrop, Marble Falls, Fredricksburg, San Marcos and Kerrville. That is some stiff competition, but Temple came out on top.Houses in Temple are priced much more reasonably than they are in Austin so we were able to find a beautiful home in a safe and quiet neighborhood. This is the biggest financial plus we have found to moving to Temple. There are many impressive churches to choose from in Temple and we discovered our church home quickly after relocating here. Many aspects attracted us to Temple. medical care is important to us. People always need good medical care, but especially as they age. With the well rated and reviewed Scott and White Hospital we have all our health needs met. We have found their care to be excellent thus far.The shopping is really good for a smaller town. We have a mall with Macy's, Dillards and JC Penney stores plus some smaller retailers and a movie theater. There is also a Men's Warehouse, Khol's, Target, two locations of Walmart, Marshall's, Avenue and Academy Sport's in Temple. We also have speciality stores like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Batteries Plus, Spec's, Tuesday Mornings, Bed Bath and Beyond and several varieties of dollar stores. We shop for Groceries at HEB most of the time and are very pleased. There is a Sam's Club store which we toured and looks very nice but we have not joined yet. Need something for your home or yard? You can go to Home Depot or Lowe's. There are a variety of restaurants in Temple. While it is not Austin, there are several good choices. If you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary you might want to try Pignetti's. The service and food are excellent. A good breakfast can be found at Henderson's. Need good but cheap eats? Go to Fuzzy's Tacos! You may get out the door for less that $5 and I promise your tummy will be full. Maybe a hamburger is what you are craving. I think the best burger in town can be found at The Cotton Patch. I won't lie I still miss some of my favorite restaurants in Austin. But, for a smaller town Temple does okay if you want to eat out. Temple has two theaters and there is another close by in Belton. So there are many choices. The Grand Avenue Theater in Belton is our favorite. We have found everything here a little cheaper than it was in Austin. That is helpful to all families, but especially retirees. The only item that costs us more here is our cable television. You only have one choice, it is Time Warner/Spectrum or nothing at all. Hopefully that will change soon. A choice is always nice. We have needed repairs and help with projects and we have always found friendly but professional help as needed in our new hometown. Temple Texas is a great place to live if you are ready to leave the big city traffic, abundant toll roads and high cost of living. Welcome to Temple! Read Less
Temple, Texas - A Solid Option 4 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 16, 2012) I have lived in Temple, Texas for about three months now and have noticed many things. For one there are a lot of theaters and places that offer live entertainment. Also if your looking for a hotel there are quite a few of them. They have basic and full service hotels to suite yo ...Read More ur needs. If you are one of those patrons who like to rough it outdoors there are numerous campgrounds to also choose from.

There is also alot of places for shopping if that is what your interested in. Art and Culture is a pretty big part of Temple Texas. One of their most famous theaters is the Temple Civic Theater. People go there to visit museums and exhibits very often. There are about five very well known museums in this city that you should check out if you are ever in the area.

If you are looking for a place to cool down and have a nice meal you are in the right place. There is a variety of many different types of ethnic foods. Over all Temple Texas is at least a place you want to visit once in your life. Some people decide they don't want to leave and make it permanent. I would rate it a 8 overall, not because it isn't an amazing place. The only reason it isn't a ten is because there are other places out there that have more to offer but if your just looking for a relaxing vacation, Temple Texas is the place to go.
