      Stratford is named after Stratford-upon-Avon in England, as its first settlers were of European decent, and much of its architecture resembles the architecture that you would see in England. The city is also not much different than its namesake in terms of culture, hosting the annual Stratford Shakespeare Festival and being a major centre for tourism. It is also a beautiful place to live, with its parks, thriving agriculture and historic homes.

      Getting around in Stratford is quite easy. The city is well served by the Stratford Transit, which offers services six days a week. The network of buses regularly traverse through the city, though most routes travel within the southern half of it. Having been an old railway junction, the city is also well connected to different parts of the country by train. A VIA train station is conveniently just outside downtown Stratford.

      Considered one of the safest places to live in Ontario, Stratford residents enjoy lower than average crime rates when compared to other cities in Ontario and even Canada. Violent crimes are especially low and the property crime rates have also been dropping steadily over the last 5 years.

      Stratford has one of the lowest living costs in the country and therefore is a popular place for retirees. On the flip side, property taxes are a little higher, which Stratford more of a renters market. Stratford apartment rentals are extremely affordable compared to other cities across Ontario and the rest of the country. The downfall is that chance are you will need to commute to your workplace, though the affordable housing makes it possible for residents to have a car.

      As a resident of Stratford, you can’t afford to miss the Shakespeare Festival, which attracts thousands of theatre watchers and famous performers. If you prefer music to theatre, the Stratford Summer Music Festival is a must attend. Many notable musicians have performed at the festival and it’s an increasingly popular festival for individuals and families alike.
