Great town for those who love the outdoors and very dog friendly User Rating 4 rating By armywife11 ( Apr 25, 2012) We lived in Southern Pines for two years and really loved it there. There is not much to do right in town if your ...Read More not into outdoors thing but your an hour (or less) drive from towns with things like a zoo and museums. The community is great. Most people are friendly and helpful. It feel like you have been there your entire life. There are a lot of retirees and families that live there. The nightlife leave little to be desired. There are a few bars in the area and some have live bands but that is really it. Again your only an hour or less away from towns with more of this. There are a few restaurants in the area. They also have most fast food places. We felt it was a good balance of things. Shopping in the area we found to be desirable but they didn't have a mall so if thats something you desired you would have to drive an hour to Fayetteville or Raleigh for that. When we moved they were suppose to be opening a few new places. They do have a decent selection for what they have however. They also have a walmart for those who look for that. They have two grocery store chains which also gives you a nice selection of food and prices. Read Less
