Close-knit community close to the city. User Rating 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 10, 2018) South Holland, Illinois is a suburb located near Chicago's southeast almost bordering Indiana. The positive about this city is that it is very ethnically and culturally diverse with opportunities to learn about new things all the time. With that being said, the city has unfortuna ...Read More tely been in a steady decline. In recent years, crime has risen to the point of locals simply wondering where the police have gone.

The city's housing market is in decline as well with property taxes increasing as well as home prices. Most homeowners have left South Holland and the houses previously owned are now being rented out to low income families which is a recipe for a community to start changing for the worst. The public schools are almost a joke, as South Holland's school system is very corrupt and doesn't seem to have the student's best interest at heart.

Nightlife, shopping and dining are not very big in South Holland. The city doesn't have a big mall or a district for bars or clubs. The farther north you go the closer you get to Chicago, so on the upside, you're not too far from more entertainment options. Overall, South Holland might be a good option if you're on a budget and need a cheap rental but still want to be close to the city. Otherwise, you're better off looking elsewhere, especially if you're raising a family. Read Less
