Best of the city and the country! 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 10, 2018) South Elgin is located just south of Elgin, Illinois and is a far west suburb of Chicago. The city is known for being excellent for families by having a great public school system and having well-policed and safe neighborhoods. South Elgin has a community feeling, being that more ...Read More rural towns are nearby since South Elgin is located between city and country. It is one of the best areas in the Chicago region to buy a home because although house prices can be reasonable to high, the property taxes are significantly lower than what you'd find in places like Cook County.

The shopping and nightlife in South Elgin is good, and the dining options are plentiful. South Elgin is a very culturally diverse community with many chances to have new exposures to different cultures. South Elgin is among Chicago's upper middle-class suburbs (as is Elgin to the north) and is proud of that status.

Overall, South Elgin is of course an excellent place to raise a family and a great choice for anyone looking for a safe community located between the city and country. Read Less
