This neighborhood is small (approx 70 homes) nestled in a small unknown area along the St. Joe river. The Edgewater area is a "district" meaning it has historic commission status and cannot be altered without approval. It is NOT a HOA but a preservation association. (simply put.. ...Read More
. you can paint your house any color you want, you just can't put vinyl siding up) The houses are all about 100 years old and most are 2 story single family homes and unfortunately the majority have shared drives. Street parking is limited but doable if common sense is used and you (as visitor) park between homes and not directly in front. (common courtesy) There is a broad mix of residents: families, retirees, singles. The crime is low, but the info posted about this neighborhood includes the "ghetto" across LWE (Lincolnway East). Controlling this aspect of crime is relevantly easy with improved efforts from the SBPD and residents simply calling the emergency or non emergency number. (We find it easier and quicker to call the non emergency number) Most people don't know this area is even here, it is well hidden! Like I said earlier, it runs along the St. Joe river across from the rowing club and caddie corner to Howard Park. It is incorporated into the river walk and the pedestrian bridge is near by. downtown is a 10 minute walk using the river walk and it truly is nature at its finest. Wildlife abound and you would never know you are so close to downtown. IUSB & Farmers Market are within minutes (walking). I currently live in the Edgewater Historic District and having lived in other districts (Chapin park) I pick this one hands down. I will be the first to admit, this town is dreary and pathetic, but if you have to live in South Bend, this area is a gem... Hope this info helps!
