I’m going to hopefully do someone a favor, these are all the things I wish I knew before I relocated to Saugerties. The Hudson Valley sucks, Saugerties is a great example of this. The “small towns” all have the population density of cities but the infrastructure of small to ...Read More
wns meaning things feel even more congested than being in an actual city. Saugerties has a couple decent dining options, but predominantly offers just fast food and crappy pizza. No good shopping. The people here (like the rest of the Hudson Valley) are an even mix of white trash wook and basic millionaires that relocated from NYC and think they’re woke because they shopped at a thrift store once. At first glance the town seems like it has character, but it’s just a facade. The housing market is abysmal. Unless you make six figures do yourself a solid and avoid this place (I make well over 6 figures and went from being financially comfortable to living paycheck to paycheck). Good luck finding a rental that doesn’t cost over 50% of your income and allows pets. Actually, good luck finding a rental period. Houses are overpriced. Literal starter homes selling for close to a million. Not walk friendly, no sidewalks other than downtown. So much loud traffic. Trains all the time. Not much of a nightlife scene. Oh and half the town has no cellphone service. Crappy health/dental care options. Avoid avoid avoid.
