Portage is a great little city right on the southern tip of Lake Michigan. I've been living in Portage for a couple years now and am pretty satisfied with the area so far. The winters can be a little chilly but it makes for some beautiful snow storms.

, which is just shy of an hour away. Because of that, the local job market around Portage might be just a little tough to break into. You'll definitely need your own car to get around the city efficiently since there isn't a whole lot as far as public transportation goes.
However, there are still a few nice places around you can visit in your free time. One of the best areas is Lake Michigan during the warmer months. It's really fun to spend some time on the lake fishing or just relaxing on the weekends. There are also a few parks and country clubs in Portage as well.
