Capital of the Badlands and Black Hills: Pierre, SD 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 25, 2010) Pierre, South Dakota is located on the East river side of South Dakota and is more than a short drive from the usual attractions that a person thinks of in the South Dakota such as the Black Hills and Badlands. Yet, the location takes little away from the city of Pierre, mostly b ...Read More ecause it is not only the state capital but is also located near many of the major college and universities in the state of South Dakota. Pierre is also located in the more highly populated part of South Dakota.

Pierre is a lovely town, located on the Platte River. I truly enjoy the city of Pierre every time I have had to opportunity to visit. It is easy to get around in and is small enough that all shopping, dining and sightseeing opportunities are just a short drive even if they are on opposite sides of the city. The Ramkota Inn in Pierre is one of the nicest, cleanest and welcoming hotels, I have stayed in South Dakota. If visiting Pierre I would recommend to everyone to visit the South Dakota state capital it is a lovely building with lovely gardens outside. Read Less
