Drew Carey's version of Parma in his hit show is very near to real life in Parma. We lived there with our three small children for several years in the late '90s. There is a real sense of community within the neighborhoods in Parma and that carries over into the school system. It's a great place to raise a family. We loved a lot of things about Parma. Being so close to downtown was one of the greatest benefits. Parma is also only minutes from The Cleveland Zoo. We've lived all around the country and have not found another zoo that even comes close to this one. There are also smaller attractions like Memphis Kiddie Park and trips to Honey Hut Ice Cream, the best ice cream east of the Mississippi.
The city of Parma isn't really a hot spot for night life. But that's one of the things that makes it such a great place for young families. If you want to party, you'll have to head downtown. But again, that's so close by and there's great public transportation straight into downtown Cleveland.
I look back on our time in Parma with fond memories. It's a wholesome city that has all the benefits of a nearby downtown but with all the charm and character you'd hope to find in suburbia.
