Newburgh, NY is a cesspool.

Newburgh, NY is a cesspool. Newburgh is high in crime and drug trafficking. The people who live and work there are just as despicable as the condition of the neighborhood. The properties and roads are not taken care of. Pretty much every road is guaranteed to have potholes. ...Read More
When the roads are paved, they will usually return to the rundown state within the same year. The houses are dilapidated and most of the residents find it unnecessary to rebuild or try to repair them. The cost of living compared to the quality of life is vastly disproportionate. Crime families find Newburgh a comfortable place. Mafia sons and daughters get specialty treatment in the education system as well as the workforce. If a resident speaks up about these acts, the resident will be chastised and lied on. There is no real shopping centers besides nadir strip malls and the Newburgh Mall. The Newburgh Mall is slowly sinking into the ground due to cheap construction, and is full of low-bar stores. There is space available for sale due to high prices of rent and low level of income-potential throughout both the town and city of Newburgh. Cheap construction is a common thread throughout Newburgh. Many Newburgh business owners and officials pocket taxpayers dollar instead of distributing the funds to associations that could ameliorate the neighborhood. Newburgh's nightlife is full of degenerates. Hearing stories of theft and sexual assault aspiring from these locations is not uncommon. Anyone recommending Newburgh as good place to live or work is only doing such to make a profit.

My trip to Newburgh, NY was not planned and that's the understatement of the year. Truth is, we were on our way back from a trip to New York City and our car broke down about 10 miles outside of Newburgh, NY. After waiting about 4 hours in 100 degree heat for a tow truck to arriv ...Read More
e, we made our way to the city of Newburgh to try to find a garage to fix the car.
After finding out that the car needed a new alternator, the tow truck driver was nice enough to drop us at the local Marriott (4 Governor Dr), which he said was a beautiful new hotel. New yes, beautiful, well let's say it was more than I expected. The hotel was very clean and the guys at the front desk were very helpful. The pool was decent and there was a little weight room. The breakfast left little to be desired, but filled the gap. Perhaps the best part of the hotel was that it was located directly across from OCC (Orange County Choppers). This was totally unexpected and a real treat. It was free to get in and showcased at least 20 of the choppers that you see being built on the actual TV show. This was however, the only real attraction I found in Newburgh, but a good one none the less.
For dinner, we visited Longhorn Steakhouse (1286 Route 300 Ne). I was expecting the predicable Outback type experience, but Longhorn was actually a couple notches up from that. The steaks were big, reasonably priced and cooked well. I had the 18oz Ribeye, which came in at $18.99 which I thought was remarkable.
Overall, Newburgh wouldn't be my first choice for a vacation, but it's not a bad city to get stuck in if your car breaks down.
