Wakefield-Williamsbridge, New York - Calm During The Storm User Rating 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 19, 2012) I lived in the Wakefield neighborhood in New York for about two years. The reason I lived here was because it was more affordable than living near my college campus. However, I know why it was cheaper. It's not the safest area in the world. People would talk to you when they woul ...Read More d see you, but I never really felt safe in the area. The apartment building I lived in was for a lot of low income families. There were several children in the neighborhood. One of the good things is that the neighborhood is within walking distance of the city. I could easily go to the park, library or out to eat if I didn't want to drive.

There are not many jobs near the neighborhood. If you want a job that pays well, it is best if you try to look for a home closer to the city. There are more schools in the area that I have ever seen before. At least one of the schools is a high school, and after classes end, some of the teenagers can get a little out of control with the music they play. They never made me feel threatened, but I don't like loud music, so it was annoying while I was trying to study for classes. The crime rate is higher has been high in the past, but the community watch program has decreased the amount of crime. Police officers drive through the neighborhood on a regular basis.

If you are looking for entertainment, there are only a few things to do. I have been to the movie theater, and it is actually quite nice. The theater shows most of the newer movies that have been released. Driving a short distance into the Bronx, I discovered the Bronx Zoo and several museums. It took an entire day to walk through some of the larger museums. The art exhibits are fabulous, and they really brightened my stay in the area. Read Less
