Utopia, New York, NY Neighborhood Review User Rating 3 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 25, 2012) I have lived in the suburban district of Utopia, New York for the past eight years. Utopia, New York is located in Queens and is a great balance between tree lined streets and the dense city-like atmosphere. There is a mixture of religious and secular communities making it a true ...Read More melting pot in Queens, New York. With accessible public transit traveling into and out of the city is easy and efficient. The good thing with living in Utopia, New York is that traveling into Manhattan through subways and busses is convenient and inexpensive. Living in Utopia reduces the cost of living while making transportation accessible to your needs if you are traveling into the city.

However, despite the reasonable cost of living and suburban style, there definitely feels an isolation or disconnect from the city. If you crave a city lifestyle Utopia would not be ideal for you. Shopping is not abundant but there are a few decent restaurants nearby. Also, if you need access to any of the other boroughs, including Brooklyn, Utopia is a great central location to live. On the plus side, there is definitely a strong sense of community and the school systems here are very good. Perhaps this is an area more ideal or suited to raising a family than for the average worker or student. It all depends on what you are going for, but for me I enjoy the simplicity and non chaotic milieu of Utopia. It certainly feels separate from New York City, but the great thing is if I wanted to venture into the city, it is located with an hour through the public transit system. Living Utopia can be an enriching experience and you certainly make of it what you put into it. There are some great working opportunities and could be a perfect spot to open up a new business, if that is something you are interested in doing.
