Soundview, New York - Shades Of Nothing User Rating 2 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 20, 2012) I lived in the Soundview neighborhood of New York for about five years. It is not an area that I would want to live in again. The area consists of apartment buildings for lower income families. The people in my apartment were nice and spoke when I spoke to them, but there were so ...Read More me people in the area who caused trouble on the weekends and during the week at night. My apartment felt fairly safe, but I would have much rather had a security officer at night. I did not park my car on the street. The elevator in the apartment only worked half of the time. My apartment was a good size for a one-bedroom, but some of the appliances in the apartment would not work that great. I ended up buying new items before I moved away. Several mothers would sit on the front steps of the apartment building while their children would play on the sidewalk.

One of the things that I did like about living in the area was the buses. I didn't have to drive my car to work, and that saved a lot of money. I could also take the bus to town when I had small errands to run, but a lot of bags were not usually allowed on the bus. Many of the people who lived in the area rode bikes or scooters. I also saw a lot of people walking to where they needed to go. The neighborhood is somewhat close to grocery stores and other shopping centers. However, you will not find an upscale shopping center nearby. Many of the stores are for people who are shopping on a budget.

There really weren't a lot of things I liked about the neighborhood, but I did spend a lot of time at the library. There is a large history section, and I enjoyed looking at the older pictures of the county. A park was located across from the library that I sat in while I read books for school. Read Less
