Park Slope is One of Brooklyn's Most Fascinating Neighborhoods User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 06, 2014) I have lived in Park Slope for 10 years in my early twenties. Park Slope is a lovely and lively neighborhood in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City. This charming area lies between Brooklyn's Prospect Park and the Prospect Park Expressway. Unlike many other parts of Brooklyn, ...Read More Park Slope is an upscale, primarily residential area without any industry. Many residents choose to live here because the neighborhood offers easy access to the bustling commercial areas of Midtown and Lower Manhattan. Housing in this neighborhood is extremely expensive, but if you are lucky enough to live here, you will get to enjoy the town's many recreational opportunities, shopping and elegant attractions as well as the cultural amenities provided by the nearby Brooklyn Museum.

Living in Park Slope has pluses and minuses. Perhaps the most difficult part of living in Park Slope is finding affordable housing. Unlike many nearby areas, much of the housing stock in this area of Brooklyn consists of brownstones. Many are privately owned so public housing is rare here. The brownstones often consist of several stories. Many owners own all floors of their brownstone. Others offer rental apartments in the brownstones with rents that can run upwards of several thousand dollars each month.

However, if you can afford to live here, you will find much to like. The low slung brownstone housing means that views of much of Manhattan are easily visible from many areas of Park Slope. This helps give the neighborhood an airy and light feeling that can be absent from other parts of Brooklyn. The area is also home to many trees and parks, making walking through it a delight for the eyes. The largest park in the area is Prospect Park. Prospect Park is home to the Central Park Zoo, an ice skating rink and the inviting Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. The gardens have an enchanting bonsai pavilion and a huge rose garden that draws visitors from around the world when it is bloom during the spring months.

Park Slope is particularly welcoming to those residents with families. The area is well known for having both good private schools and good public schools. Access to good food is also easy to find here. Several food co-ops exist, enabling local residents easy access to fresh produce and other healthy products. Read Less
