Dynamite Living In High Bridge User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 05, 2014) I lived in the in High Bridge for 3 years and am in my 40s. I relocated to High Bridge from the Upper West Side. The High Bridge is a neighborhood in the borough of Bronx, New York, that is located in the Southwestern section of the Bronx. It boundaries are to the north is Cross- ...Read More Bronx Expressway, to the east is Jerome Ave., to the south is East 116th St. and to the west is the Harlem River.

The neighborhood is desirable primarily because the rent is reasonable around in the $2,000 range, and these apartments are beautiful. It is possible to rent a home that will eventually lead to buying that home. I could never have afforded buying an apartment or home on the Upper West Side. The cost of living including food, healthcare, and transportation is similar to other neighborhoods of New York. The real saving is in housing. Housing is much less expensive in High Bridge. Personally, I find it great to a lower rent giving me extra money to spend on things that I like to do like shopping and vacations. When I lived in Manhattan, I had very little money to use to indulge myself. My quality of life is a little better with a few extra pennies in my pocket.

Yet, the High Bridge is located very close to Manhattan and all the advantages of living in Manhattan are easily accessible. There is public transportation to Manhattan that takes me to all the places that I want to go. Instead of a short subway ride, it can take 30 minutes to get to a dynamite museum show, but I can get there and it is only a few minutes more travel time on the subway. The accessibility to Manhattan makes it easy to live in High Bridge and work in Manhattan. Public transportation goes all over New York so it is possible to community to work in any of the boughs. I love beautiful High Bridge Park with it newly restored gardens and waterfront greenway. It is natural gems with rocky cliffs, an urban forest, and of course the flowering gardens. High Bridge is an outstanding structure which is sculptural in design. It has steel arches and crosses the Harlem River which connects the High Bridge neighborhood with Manhattan. Read Less
