Gramercy New York, NY User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 20, 2012) I have lived in upstate New York for most of my life, so I am a lot more used to small towns, big streets, and shopping malls than I am to the hustle and bustle of New York City. Upstate New York is known for its picturesque views, long roads, wonderful golf courses, rich enterta ...Read More inment, and fantastic restaurants. I had experienced all of these great things for most of my life. However, after college the lure of the big city was irresistible, and I moved to the Gramercy neighborhood on the lower east side of Manhattan.

For the past three years I have been a resident of New York City and the Gramercy area has been my home. Having lived on the third floor of an apartment building, I get to see and feel all the good and bad aspects of living in such an area. The neighborhood is extremely safe and there have been next to no burglaries or other criminal incidents. Everyone goes about their business in an efficient and friendly manner. There are a few streets that can be noisy at night, particularly if there is a bar downstairs. However, by 10PM or 11PM, almost everything is closed and the area becomes extremely quiet and pleasant for those who are early sleepers.

There are some terrific medical facilities in the lower east side and all of them are easily accessibly from Gramercy. So should you or a loved one ever need urgent medical attention, the nearest hospital is a mere minutes away. The fire response teams are also extremely efficient in this part of Manhattan, so that is another thing you do not need to worry about.

Gramercy is one of the cleanest parts of the lower east side. The streets are always great to look at and they rarely have too much trash thrown on them. There are also two or three wonderful little parks in Gramercy. These are great places to sit down and unwind, or simply to look at as they add a great deal of greenery to the city environment.

The only negative aspects to Gramercy are the lack of shopping options and the cost of living. Gramercy, like the rest of Manhattan, has some of the most expensive rent prices in the United States. Gramercy is also not home to too many retail shopping stores, so you would need to take the train uptown or downtown to get to the nearest shopping area.

Overall, Gramercy is one of the nicest neighborhoods anyone could find in the Manhattan area. It is quiet, ideally located, and a very safe place to live. Read Less
