Fordham, a community gem that has plenty to offer its residents User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 10, 2014) New York is a large city with many great neighborhoods, but Fordham is my favorite place to live. Fordham is a busy commercial and residential community located in the Bronx. Its boundaries start clockwise and include to the north Fordham Road, on the east Webster Avenue, to the ...Read More south East 183rd Street, and on the west is Jerome Avenue. Typical New Yorkers are always on the move, and it's the same with the diverse community of Fordham. The bustling neighborhood thrives on being active with so many amenities available, you'll quickly understand why it's such a popular residential area.

Fordham's large mixture of national and regional chain stores, as well as, small independent shops make it one of the most prominent shopping districts in the Bronx. When I lived in Fordham, I would make any excuse to go shopping as there were so many clothing retailers nearby. Whether I was looking for some new clothes at the Gap or a stylish new pair of shoes at Nine West, with the wide selection of retailers available I was sure to find something that I liked. When I didn't feel much like shopping, I would take a walk and visit the Bronx Zoo or Botanical Gardens. Both are just a few blocks walking distance and are great options if you need to take a break from shopping. Fordham also has a variety of dining options as I can choose between eating at a vendor, fast food place, or even a restaurant.

Having all the major amenities like the local restaurants, clothing stores, multiple transportation options, schools and the hospital all in one area makes Fordham a great place to live. While the nearby amenities was one of the major reasons why I loved living in Fordham, the less desirable aspects of this area are its overcrowded streets and limited parking options. To call Fordham Road busy is an understatement as the neighbourhood receives more foot traffic than SOHO in Manhattan and the Flatiron District. People that are not comfortable with large social settings may not like Fordham as it is packed to the brim with college students, school children, shoppers and pedestrians on a daily basis. With Fordhams many problems, it's still a gem screaming with the activity and diversity that encapsulates the Bronx's identity. Read Less
