My Experience Living in Flushing, Queens NYC User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 25, 2012) I have lived in Flushing for all of my 32 years. While I have seen some minor changes, the area has remained one of the prettiest and most historic neighborhoods in NYC. Growing up in Flushing was safe, and my parents always enjoyed the quiet, peaceful atmosphere not offered in o ...Read More ther surrounding areas. Our family home is located Broadway, which is an upper class suburb, but there are many other areas in Flushing that can be considered comfortable. There is not much to do in Flushing in the way of the night life, but the commute to other areas is very easy as most of the LIRR stops are within walking distance of just about any area of Flushing.

For people wishing to raise children, Flushing is a great area with several neighborhoods, some of them nicer than others. The choices for food and eateries are plentiful, but you might want to make your coffee at home as I have yet to find a "great" cup of coffee at any of them. There is a wide range of ethnicity in Flushing which means you can listen to one group of people speaking Chinese, while overhearing another group speaking in thick Irish brogues. This only makes for a more interesting experience as far as I am concerned. I have ventured out to other areas of NYC, but have always returned to Flushing as it is the place I know and love most.

If I had to recommend a neighborhood to families or young people just looking for affordable housing that is safe, I would say any of the neighborhoods in Flushing would be fine. One thing I love about Flushing is that I can easily get into the city to party, yet do not feel I am surrounded by clubs and bars in my own neighborhood. This gives me the sense of coming home to a whole different world after a night spent in Manhattan with friends.I have seen many people move into Flushing in my years here, and I can honestly say, I haven't seen many of them complain. Overall, if you have to live in an area that is located close enough to the city for an easy commute to work, but want to avoid the hustle and bustle, Flushing is a suitable choice. Read Less
