It was not that bad of a neighborhood, and there are many areas in Brooklyn where you will be able to walk around during the day safely. However, it is important to keep i ...Read More n mind that many of the good neighborhoods are surrounded by bad neighborhoods. Nonetheless, the good thing about Brooklyn is that there are many cultured areas, and you can also find some of the best pizza in America.

It is important not to flash anything when you are in east Brooklyn. Not even a scooter. You also do not want to hold your cell phone unless you plan on talking on it. I had a friend who had their cell phone nabbed. Many of the crimes go unreported in this area so it is important not to rely on crime reports completely.

If you are a tourist especially, then you should be careful and it is probably best to go back to your hotel at night. Tourists in particular have a habit of being targeted because they are the most blissfully unaware. Doing your research before coming to Brooklyn can help you to avoid the bad areas. Also always keep in mind that police are your best friends here, and that if you plan on going out at night, at least go to areas that are crowded and will not make you a target.

East Brooklyn is not the worst neighborhood, but it can be sketchy at night and this is why it is better to avoid that area at night. A common attraction in Brooklyn is Coney Island. This is a nice theme park, but keep in mind that it is no Disneyland. The beach is dirty, and the rides are okay.

If you plan on visiting or moving to East Brooklyn, then it is important to do your research beforehand. This will help you to avoid Brooklyn's darker aspects and keep to the positives. Brooklyn is one of the best places to go to see different cultures all in one place.
