Canarsie, New York - The Heart Of Brooklyn User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 05, 2012) Living in Canarsie is really excellent. I have moved here with my wife almost five years ago this month. Canarsie is particularly amazing since it resides in the heart of Brooklyn as well as being very close to the Lower East Side, Soho, and the larger parts of Manhattan. It's an ...Read More epic center rife with museums, cultural destinations, great restaurants, music venues, and bars. It's also close to Greenpoint and Williamsburg, where a lot of activity is happening this day but the rent is much cheaper than those two areas of Brooklyn.

However, recently Canarsie was hit really hard by the mortgage crisis that deeply affected the greater portion of the United States. The areas in Canarsie are dense and there is a sense of community as well as a slice of suburban life there as well. It is a safe place to raise a family albeit many families have left after the mortgage crisis struck. Canarsie Pier is one of the main attractions in this part of Brooklyn. There are many parks, fields and playgrounds for children which make it an ideal spot for raising kids. There are also five public elementary schools and the education system here is top notch. Commuting to midtown is about an hour which makes traveling into Manhattan enjoyable as opposed to traveling from somewhere like Long Island or New Jersey. It's a convenient and decent place to live and I am thinking of staying longer and possibly watching my children grow up here. Canarsie feels like a suburban part of brooklyn outside the bustling city of New York. It's quieter neighborhood makes living peaceful and relaxing. Although for entertainment and shopping we travel into New York City, this is a wonderful and quiet neighborhood to live in. Read Less
