Borough Park, New York - A Jewish Orthodox Community User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 05, 2012) I used to live in Borough Park, New York for a few months but then relocated to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Here is the thing with regards to Borough Park, it is an amazing part of Brooklyn but if you not of orthodox religious faith, you are an oddity in that part of town. Further, B ...Read More orough Park, New York seems more like a section of Brooklyn that is devoted to the Orthodox Jewish community and makes it very uncomfortable and difficult for an outside or secular person to live. Yiddish is spoken on the streets and most of the shop and restaurants follow strict codes of Orthodox Jewish Laws. So, being an adventurous, secular, and young man looking for a good time in Brooklyn, this was not the ideal place to live. The rent, however was affordable when compared to other parts of Brooklyn, but it was not worth the awkwardness I felt in that area of town being the anomaly. However, with that said, if you are religious and fit the criteria of living there, then you will love it. All the food, people, and general vibe of that part of town has its own aura about it, so for the right person it would be the right place to live.

The great thing about Borough Park, New York is that you are very close to Manhattan and other cooler areas of Brooklyn such as Bushwick or Williamsburg where there is a lot of music, clubs, bars, and excellent restaurants with an incredible night life energy. Unfortunately, if you are outside the Orthodox and Hassidic faith, then there is very little to do here in Borough Park. You can shoot pool, go to the innumerable Kosher restaurants and cafe, but if you are looking for a more diverse and adventurous part of town, this is not the place for you. Read Less
