Life in the Bedford Park Neighborhood of the Bronx User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 20, 2012) When people hear "The Bronx," they often picture a horrible place with nothing but crime riddled areas. However, Bedford Park is a great neighborhood in which to raise kids and enjoy serenity. Because it is home to so many schools and colleges, it is considered the educational ce ...Read More nter of the Bronx. You have Lehman College, as well as its high school, Mount Saint Ursula Catholic Private School, Dewitt Clinton High and many others.

What I loved most about having lived in Bedford Park were the nice walks I would take each day through the famous Botanical Gardens that spans over two hundred acres and contains at least fifty acres of nothing but forest. The greenery in Bedford Park is amazing. Many families with small children have relocated to Bedford Park because of the overall family appeal and safety the neighborhood is known for. Sure, you have your wild teenagers who like to graffiti and commit other petty crimes, but all in all, living in Bedford Park is a nice change from many other neighborhoods in the Bronx.

There are several subway lines that pass through this area, making it easy to get just about anywhere you'd like to go in NYC, so that makes commuting easy. There are not so many shopping and dining options available, but there are a couple of great places to eat on Bedford Park Blvd, so it isn't as if you have to go too far. Additionally, playgrounds and parks are located within walking distance of just about every area of this neighborhood.

For those looking for luxurious free standing homes, this probably isn't the best place. Also, the nightlife here is almost non-existent, probably helping to account for the fact that the neighborhood is still so safe. There is some traffic during prime hours of early morning and afternoon commute, but walking is a great option and the tree lined streets make it a scenic trip each and every time. For anyone who has lived in Bedford Park as opposed to other areas of the Bronx, this is one of the favorites for families, generally speaking. Read Less
