Living in Astoria, New York: Limited for Nightlife User Rating 3 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 06, 2012) Astoria, Long Island City is part of Queens, New York. Astoria, Queens borders Long Island and the Bronx and makes for a incredible place to live outside of the bustling city of New York. The thing I really do not like about Astoria is the limited shopping and nightlife events. I ...Read More t seems like a great community to live if you would like to live outside of Manhattan. It offers many great places to eat and cultural sites but in order to get the most out of shopping and nightlife adventure, traveling to New York City is key. However, if you love Manhattan and spend a lot of time there, Astoria would not be the best destination for you to live in, since commuting can take up to an hour or more depending on the day or night.

However, living in Astoria is a great place for a family or for settling down. I have lived here for fifteen years with my wife and two kids and it offers a great school system with excellent educational and athletic programs. I would recommend Astoria for families and adults but not for party going people who might prefer the excitement of a larger city landscape. Despite lacking in many entertainment areas, Astoria prides itself with a lot of historical buildings and parks for a bit of nature amidst the outer borough of Manhattan. It's a unique and diverse place to live as well. Astoria is home to many different races, ethnicities, religious orientations, and educational backgrounds. Crime is relatively low-key and it is a safe neighborhood for kids to play and live. Astoria also has many great places to eat and places for cultural centers within the city. Read Less
