Where is the Princess City? User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 22, 2012) That would be Mishawaka, Indiana. In 1838 it was named after a Shawnee Chiefs' daughter Mishawaka. During the 1800's iron deposits were discovered and the settlers soon came in droves. Princess Mishawaka fell in love with a trapper named Deadshot and when her Shawnee partner Gray ...Read More Wolf found out he kidnapped her and they never returned. The story of her father's heartbreak over the loss of his daughter has been passed down from generation to generation.

I lived in Mishawaka for about 5 years; and loved every minute of it. My original destination was South Bend, Indiana but due to higher housing prices I wandered out to Mishawaka. South Bend and Mishawaka are twin cities located on the St. Joseph River. Being located so close to the St. Joseph's River residents of both cities to have a very enjoyable water access. Mishawaka has a beautiful water walk/run path along both sides of the river. On the walkway you can cross the river at four different bridges with vistas of the surrounding area. The 5K running path also takes you on both sides but doesn't cross the bridges but takes you through old trees covering the path. The running path offers the running enthusiast a challenging yet beautiful place to exercise. The river has a canoe and small craft launching area scattered along its banks. The main park for Mishawaka is called Central Park and it is located in the center of town. A Civil War Memorial is located in the center of the park and adds a wonderful touch of history to the area. I'm a huge running nut and have taken full advantage of all that this area has to offer with its unlimited public access.

The homes in the Mishawaka are built in a very Cape Cod or Victorian style; these homes number around 20,250 and the number of households with children under eighteen years of age is 28%. This is a very family oriented town. The homes are affordable and there are 27 parks and recreational space for everyone to enjoy. Surrounding the main part of the city are acres and acres of farm land. Farmers Markets are everywhere and you can purchase unlimited amounts of vegetables and fruit. The town was once nicknamed the "Peppermint Capital" of the world; the dark soil provides a perfect base for growing mint and other delicious items.
