Mattoon, Illinois is a small city located between St. Louis, Missouri and Chicago, with about a two hour or so drive either way. It has a decent housing market with house prices being average to low, and property taxes remaining reasonable. The toughest part of living in Mattoon ...Read More
is finding gainful employment, being that the town is located farther away from the cities and is not near any major corporate centers.
The overall weather in Mattoon is comparable to that of the rest of Illinois and the Midwest, with winters being blustery and cold, and summer being hot and quite humid. It should also be noted that Mattoon is located in tornado alley, so residents are subjected to potential tornadoes during the spring and summer months.
Overall, Mattoon is a good place to raise a family. It has the charms of rural living that a lot of people are looking for in a warm, welcoming community. Especially for those looking to raise a family.
