Gray Montana Life User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 12, 2023) July and August are beautiful here with lakes everywhere and some secret spots I or a local may not tell you about. Whitefish is nearby, a ski resort area, with high dollar homes, a lake and train station, nice hospital. Glacier national park is about 45min to an hour from Kalisp ...Read More ell. Beautiful to visit if you can get in! If your kiddos like sports and are competitive you will like the sports teams. It’s an A school so they are very competitive with their sport camps and travel sports. More jobs then some areas of Montana, which isn’t saying a lot. A big hospital that owns all the medical places in town. Also, still some freedoms you may not find in other states like California or Oregon etc.
BUT….. it’s gloomy, like Seattle for pretty much 10 months of the year! Bummer. Snow on the ground whole winter and there are a lot of suicides and people who may be in need of vitamin D. You get some days with pretty rainbows and green everywhere, but it’s like Ahhhh, the sun!! and then it’s gone. Home prices have gone into ridiculous mode. If cloudy days are your thing and you have the money to rent or buy a home here you could make it work. Read Less
NOT faint at heart if U enjoy Work, Weather, Friendly people, forward thinking! User Rating 1.5 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 09, 2019) The scenery is outstanding, breathtaking. The weather is abysmal, really challenging 5 to 6 months out of the year, most years. There is an inversion, gray, overcast for days at a time and the temperatures are harsh and sometimes subzero for extended periods of time. People here ...Read More leave their animals out, in 22 below zero weather, one call to the Animal Control, Heather I believe and it is just tough, there are virtually no cruelty rules about leaving your pet out in this weather. Completely ignorant and inexcusable attitudes and consciousness here where it concerns helpless animals. Also, Montana enjoys the record for infant and child deaths, another indication of the overall lack of any empathy, sympathy for the most vulnerable in Flathead Valley, truly appalling, people here look the other way, ignorant is a kind definition. There are old time families here and the good ole boy system in force at all times, hence, sky high rents, high crime, garbage pay, same families are employers. To give a summary the Attorney General Tim Fox allows employers in the "great" state of Montana to tell their workers they'll receive a bonus, said employee does all the work, hours, etc., and the employer in Montana can refuse the employee said bonus without any repercussions from Montana Department of Labor. Good ole boy, abusive permeates at the top of the local municipalities all the way up to the top government officials. Same Tim Fox refused to handle Montana university rapes in an even reasonable fashion and was called out by the federal government, and, still refused. The rape of a female student by a quarter back at MSU is under lock and key, no Montana boy is going to be outed as a rapist, especially if he's at MSU. The Kalispell Regional Hospital (an oxymoron) was recently investigated and convicted of committing FRAUD against it's patients with 64 physicians referring to each other to enrich themselves and the hospital, it went on for 6, SIX years, and, it took a CPA to report it, CORRUPT to the CORE here! Really appalling but the paper here, The Daily Interlake wouldn't write too much about it, the hospital advertising dollars precluded them from doing so if they'd like to keep that money coming in. Think about that for six years, doctors, nurses, administration personnel ALL kept that within their corrupt, criminal selves and enjoyed a NET profit of $200,000,000.00 TWO HUNDRED MILLION, in little ole, corrupt Kalispell, Montana!!! This isn't Kansas Dorothy!!! Visit in the summer, do a dry run through from October to May (snow, sub zero) remember, Good ole boy, if you're one of them it will be good for you.

It has its plusses and minuses User Rating 2.5 rating By kjon99fm ( Feb 25, 2014) Pluses: located near a great variety of outdoor recreation (snow activities in the winter and water/wilderness activities in the summer); uncrowded (but somewhat challenged by tourists on their way to Glacier National Park in the summer months); lots of open space; summers are ty ...Read More pically mild and enjoyable

Minuses: the winters are harsh with snow and bitterly cold temperatures; the Flathead Valley often is shrouded in clouds/high fog during significant stretches of winter; there is a huge gap between average wages and affordable housing; far too many trailer homes and parks; huge inconsistencies in housing construction (large energy inefficiencies and cheap building materials); virtually non-existent pull to patron the downtown because there are too many businesses located along Main Street that are not restaurant, cafe, night life, or gift shop-oriented (instead there are banks, realtor and other professional offices, martial arts, state government offices, etc.); traffic infrastructure is woefully inadequate (zero planning and foresight as to future growth); roads are poorly maintained; very few parks in and around the city itself; the entire valley is bicycle and pedestrian unfriendly with very few bike paths and sidewalks are limited to the very core of the downtown itself. In essence, Kalispell is about 20-30 years ahead at being behind. Read Less
