Spring Branch, Houston - A Convenient Location User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 05, 2012) Living in Spring Branch, a neighborhood in Northwest Houston, gives a lifestyle of convenience to city life while enjoying a family-oriented neighborhood. There are plenty of parks and community centers with pools, tennis courts, biking trails and more to provide family weekend a ...Read More nd after school recreation and extracurricular activities. These are conveniently located to the residents of Spring Branch.

Spring Branch derives it's name from one of several narrow bayous that run through the city, connecting lakes, swamps and creeks. It eventually meanders it's way to the Buffalo Bayou in Houston. In the center of the neighborhood is a large pond that locals call Spring Lake. The true water and beach enthusiast can rest assured that a fairly nice beach can provide a day trip for beach-combing, swimming and sunning on one of Galveston's beaches. That is good news, because this part of the country experiences some of the muggiest, hottest weather in the nation.

Surrounded by US Highway 290, the Beltway 8, I!0 and I610, the commute into Houston goes fairly quickly. However, I would suggest working closer into the neighborhood of Spring Branch proper if possible. Houston traffic can get hairy at best. The freeways are crowded and dangerous at times. The job market is not too bad in the neighborhood. There is not a wealth of jobs for those in the retail, restaurant or hotel industry. There are headquarter's offices for the meat and oil industry. With a rehabilitation center in the neighborhood, it is a good area for physical, occupational and speech therapists. Spring Branch Medical Center provides jobs for those in the health care field, and more.

Public schools are plentiful in the Spring Branch Independent School District, keeping over-crowding at bay. They have a way to go, but school administrators and teachers are working hard to help schools meet the standards of Adequate Yearly Progress(AYP)as set forth by the NCLB Act.

The demographics of the area began changing in the latter part of the last century. This has impacted the housing and the attitudes of some. Some of the prejudices of old Texas still exists. Getting past that, there are some nice, down-home folks that are community-oriented that make great neighbors.
