Boring City With No Jobs. User Rating 0.5 rating By Ghost_763 ( Aug 18, 2014) If you want to not have time for your family, or love working 40+ hours a week at a low paying temp job, then Greenwood is for you.
Otherwise do not come here.
This is the most boring town I have ever been in. It seems to be for only the 20% office workers who have anything here.

The other 80% that have real jobs (Where you actually have to move to get paid) have to money and nothing to do but go to Wal-Mart.
Ready to move where that have real jobs for real people. Not a place where you work temp for the rest of your life, or have to be a white collar professional to make enough to pay the bills. Read Less
Don't move to Greenwood!! User Rating 1 rating By cb68 ( May 31, 2012) I have lived in Greenwood, SC for almost 5 years now, not by choice, and I am MORE then ready to move away! Let me give you some reasons why I feel this way.

1. Being from up north, I have been made to feel unwanted by the locals. I am known as a "Yankee" here or scum to them. I
...Read More am amazed that many people refuse to deal with "Yankees", to the point they don't bother speaking with them. Good luck finding a job here if you are from up north. You can apply but you won't get it. It's still the Good old boy system down here.

2. I noticed on this site they give Greenwood high points for transportation. I would LOVE to know where they got their information from because, unless you have a car, you are stuck walking. There are no trains, buses, ok there are cabs but with the pay wages so low(I'll get to that one soon), you wind up spending your whole check on getting to work.

3. The pay rate - it sucks!! Unless you have a gone to college for nursing, you are going to work at one of the 1000s of fast food places in town, along with the supermarket, rent to own companies, gas stations and Family Dollar stores. These places start you at $8.00. No wonder there is TONS of poverty here! No one can afford anything! Plus, SC is one of the states that a company can fire you for no reason what so ever. It's called the "at will" law. Total BS!

4. Nothing to do. There is nothing for the people to do in this town! It's no wonder the crime rate is so high! Drugs are everywhere here. There is a college here in Greenwood - Lander University and I wonder WHY the hell anyone would want to come here to go to school! Just a few months ago, 3 women were raped inside their dorm rooms by 2 black men. There have been murders, rapes, robberies, etc. I know many people who have had their homes broken into and had their WHOLE place cleaned out! Give these people busy with something so the crime rate would go down. The closest town that has something going for it is Greenville, which is an hour away!

5. The obesity rate - NEVER in my life have I seen more unhealthy people in one area! It's no wonder everyone becomes a nurse here because there in job security. Everyone is HUGE!! That is because of the unhealthy diets these people eat. Like I mentioned earlier, there are 1000s of fast food places here. That's all there is here. And they are PACKED always! I have been divorced for 3 years now and have NO desire to find a woman in Greenwood. I would be crushed!!

I can go on and on why you should not come to Greenwood to live. I know many northerners that live here and they hate it! If you are single, don't bother coming here either. Everyone gets married, because of a mistake at 17. Plus, you need to be a "Country Boy" for any woman to desire you here. In other words, a moron. My daughter sees many of the girls in her 11th grade class pregnant. It's sad.

I am moving very soon and I can not wait!! Please do not come here!! Go to Greenville or Charleston. Great cities! Read Less
