Great Place to Live 5 rating By Anonymous ( Jan 23, 2020) We moved Friendswood eight years ago just in time for our son to start 7th grade at Friendswood Junior High. Growing up in the area, I had always heard about Friendswood ISD being a great district for your kids to get an education and we were pleasantly surprised to find the scho ...Read More ols and the district were even better than we had heard. The schools are wonderful. My son made great friends from good families and we made lots of friends as well. There are plenty of attractions in the area: NASA, Lone Star Flight Museum, tons of places in Galveston and Houston; but Friendswood itself is fairly small so I gave a 7 for Attractions.

The sense of community is unlike anywhere I have lived. We have parades and town gatherings at major holidays like Christmas and July 4th (and Homecoming). Friendswood actually has the oldest regular July 4th parade in Texas. Citizens from local towns flock to Friendswood for the annual July 4th concert and party. The town and school district are good about coordinating shuttle service for big events (and Friendswood High School Football games) so lots of families enjoy the sense of small-town community with big-city amenities. I gave community a 9.

Nightlife got a lower score because the town is fairly quiet at night (except for Friday nights in the fall when the town turns out to support the Friendswood Mustangs and the Clear Brook Wolverines) but there are sports bars, wine bars, and family restaurants to spend time in. Again, the proximity to Houston and Galveston helps to offer plenty for residents to do at night; but since Friendswood itself is pretty quiet, I gave Nightlife a 6.

Dining is another high point. Of course Houston and Galveston are close enough to go and enjoy great food, but you can find good choices in town. Plenty of fast food for quick bites, but also really good local restaurants for Italian, Chinese, and Mexican food. Lately, Friendswood has become known for fine dining and people come from Houston just to dine in Friendswood. I gave Dining a 9.

Shopping is really good. Lots of local stores to support and find what you need, good grocery stores, and Baybrook Mall is one of the best shopping destinations in the area. Again Houston is so close, you can live in Friendswood and run into Houston should you need anything that can't be found locally. I gave Shopping a 9.

Friendswood is also ranked as one of the safest cities and best places to live on many lists. Just search for Friendswood and you should see several lists citing it's low crime and great family aspects.

I have found that Friendswood is a great place to live and I'm sure like anything else some people have a bad experience, which is terrible, but isolated. Of course my experience is isolated as well, but I wanted to give another view on life in Friendswood. I also think I should mention something about Friendswood that's a little different...

Most cities reside within a single county and, here in Texas, most cities also rest within a larger single School District. Many times several municipalities can share an Independent School District (not tied specifically to a city). Friendswood is different because it straddles two counties; Galveston and Harris. Part of town is in Harris County and that part is served by Clear Creek Independent School District which also serves League City, Webster, and a few smaller towns. The other side of Friendswood is in Galveston County and is served by Friendswood Independent School District. This is the side I live on and that's because we wanted our son in Friendswood ISD. I would point out that both are good districts and both High Schools (Clear Brook in CCISD and Friendswood High School in FISD) are very good schools. My wife and I grew up in Galveston County and were more comfortable living in the Galveston County side. We also preferred FISD and made sure to shop for homes in the FISD side of town. If you are considering moving to the area specifically for Friendswood schools, be sure to search for homes on the FISD side. If you prefer CCISD, you can also specify that in your search. The Harris County side is closer to Interstate 45 and Baybrook Mall, so many residents prefer that proximity.

Hopefully if you're looking to move to the area, you can do some research and even come to Friendswood to see for yourself. Just watch the speed and drive safe, Friendswood PD is very good at traffic enforcement. Read Less

I don't need a ton of shopping options, but some would be great. We are moving from San Diego, so we know we will be up for a change...but are also excited!

The school district taxes are very high, and you will still probably have to send your children to a private school costing on the order of a college or university, if you want them to be safe and be able to pass a college ...Read More entrance exam.

There is little to do and few attractions. The park has a gazebo.

The city government is as abusive as any foreign dictatorship. City employees have been observed in drug activity.

Property crime and vehicle break-ins are a real problem.

Homes are overpriced compared with other better neighborhoods in the Houston area.

Limited medical care available withing less than 10-15 miles.

There are a lot of fast food restaurants. Others are marginal.

No cultural interests to speak of.

Population is mostly working class trying to move into upper middle class.

It likes to promote itself as a small town of churches, but there is no noticeable evidence God is aware of any of them.

The town is very bigoted towards non-caucasions and non-protestants.

Overall bad investment not conducive to a healthy family life.

Do not recommend for any age group. Read Less
