City of Freeport, FL 4 rating By Nancy J Weber ( May 03, 2020) Area Vibes needs to update their site. The City of Freeport has just over 4,000 population in the Hammock Bay Community alone. The original city proper is near 3,000 population for a total population of over 7,000. This is one of the fastest growing communities in Walton County. ...Read More The planned community of Hammock Bay has approximately 20 neighborhoods; amenities include 3 community pools, a community theater and club house, a fitness center, walking/biking trails, a neighborhood fishing pier, a general store, pickle ball, tennis, and basketball courts, a disc golf course, and many planned community activities. There are new parks, new restaurants, and a newer Publix grocery store in a shopping area right off Highway 331. There is a wonderful mix of lifelong Freeportians, young and old; and the influx of newer residents that include a large populace of retirees from the North. We moved here in September 2018 and have seen continued growth beyond many new businesses that were established shortly before we arrived. We are less than a 30 minute drive from beautiful white sand beaches. Residents are friendly and helpful to new arrivals. The small town traffic, farmer's market, food trucks, and annual rodeo are well attended and have a wonderful feel and pride of community. Hopefully, Freeport will continue to be a great small town community as it grows into a small city with all the attractions, dining, and shopping that keep cities thriving. Read Less
