Fort Dodge, IA: A Great Combination of City and Country 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 10, 2018) Fort Dodge, Iowa is located around an hour or so north of Des Moines. Fort Dodge is a fun city with the conveniences of urban commerce and the pleasantries of rural living. Fort Dodge is medium-size city with a lot to offer for shopping, dining, and even nightlife. There are many parks located along the Des Moines River. During the fall season the trees that line the river in every park give a breathtaking display of natural warm colors that are a favorite of locals and visitors. The overall weather in Des Moines is the same as the rest of the Midwest being that the winters are very cold with a lot of snow and the summers are very hot and quite humid.

The housing market in Fort Dodge is excellent as well. Single family homes are among some of the cheapest in Iowa, and property taxes are kept reasonably low. Fort Dodge is a safe and clean community, and an excellent choice for those looking to raise a family, or those looking for something different, maybe even better than Des Moines. Read Less
