Delray Beach, FL - A Pleasant Surprise 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 19, 2011) When it comes to Florida beach vacations, I've found that most beach trips are the same. However, when my family and I visited Delray Beach, Florida in August of 2010, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of our stay. We stayed at the Delray Beach Marriott during our visit ...Read More . The room was small, but the hotel itself was very clean, and beautiful. The pool area was fantastic and great for the kids, and the beach was just across the street, while downtown was just a few feet away.

One of the most surprising things about Delray was the shopping we found in the "downtown" area, there were several little shops and restaurants, and not the touristy type you see in many beach towns. There were a lot of great places to eat, our favorite was Boston's on the Beach, which had a great atmosphere, wonderful outdoor seating and a expansive menu. The only real downside to our Delray Beach experience was that the city owns the beach and therefore could charge us $32 a day to use some beach chairs and an umbrella, which seemed a little expensive.
