I lived in the Lake Highland area for over a decade while I was raising children. Though there are a few downsides to the neighborhood, overall my family and I immensely enjoyed our time in Lake Highland.

months, the heat is dry, making it more manageable. Additionally, though they were days that were hot, for the most part, even summertime was pleasant. The spring and fall seasons are simply gorgeous and temperatures are neither too hot nor too cold. Though winters are sometimes chilly, ultimately, in comparison to other places in the US, they are quite mild.
Lake Highlands is a diverse area of Dallas and we enjoyed interacting with people of many different nationalities both in school situations and well as more generic community settings. This diversity also contributes to the variety of food and amenities that are available. A number of markets featuring cuisines of different ethnicities exist in the area. Though I wouldn't call the overall restaurant scene great, the area has a decent selection of different cuisines, though many of the restaurants are chain restaurants and don't provide anything particularly unique.
There is sufficient resources to provide a good shopping experience including plenty of larger chain stores as well as few more local options. People won't have any trouble finding what they want and need unless they're looking for something extremely particular.
Though there isn't much nightlife, there are a decent number of bars and places to hang out during the evening and night hours.
The area is quite nice looking. Though there are older areas of the neighborhood, for the most part, it looks well kept and modern. There are a good number of parks and public spaces that are well maintained and work to brighten and unify the area. Though there is a good deal of crime in the area, the crime in Lake Highland is slightly better than many other areas of Dallas.
Though Lake Highland is the not the official name of the area that it refers to, those who live in Dallas use the term and people from Texas are familiar with it. The general boundaries are the boundaries for City Council District 10. However, surrounding areas are often included when referring to the area.
