The mountains never disappoint User Rating 3 rating By rjaidie ( Oct 27, 2015) This little town is full of adventure. It is very family oriented as the locals are always eager to greet you with a warm smile and sometimes even a hug. I spend most my childhood with my family hiking trails, visiting Cades Cover (it is a must see for all ages), the small town ...Read More of cherokee, Maggie Valley, Asheville North Carolina (near Cherokee). There is not very much to do for small children as it is a mature town nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains, but it does have something for everyone. The Casino is there for young to mature adults who may have a lucky hand, the Cherokee Village has pony rides and shops for children to visit and explore. There is occasionally a pow wow in downtown which is excellent for those exploring the ways of their ancesters. Along the straight drive into Cherokee right across from the HS there is a park that is excellent for wading, fishing, hunting for gems and rocks )and occasionally I will find a seashell or two), and the bamboo forest. It is a nice little walk across the bridge overlooking the river where you can raft, swim, or just overlook. It's definitely one of my favorites about Cherokee. Along the strip there are unique shops that are definitely not going to be found anywhere else as they are native to the land. It's nice to be able to drive a straight line and park, as the shops are all within walking distance of one another. I would recommend this city to anyone looking for a quiet little get away or a family vacation because there is something to do and there are some of the most friendly people in the world living out the Southern Hospitality.
