Depressed, decaying, waste User Rating 1 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 08, 2019) The people of Cheektowaga are nice. They're relatively friendly and jovial. They lack the overall nastiness of NY in general. There's a huge Polish population, which means lovely food and festivals. It's nice that there's that sense of community. But as far as a 'nice' area, it's ...Read More not. It's fallen into disrepair. There's a great deal of crime. It's alot of tiny tiny houses crammed together, then stores and different industrial-type businesses. It seems like, if you lived there in the 50's, you would have had a good job, a safe home for your family and a sense of community. None of that applies anymore. It's more like just totally economically depressed with everything falling down around, including the infrastructure. Yet the people living there seem happy and resilient. The weather is honestly the worst I've ever seen of anywhere I've lived. They measure snow in feet not inches, and it snows probably 9 months out of the year. It's constantly windy too, like the kind of wind that will literally knock you down....same goes for downtown Buffalo.
I would say if you're into pub food and staying indoors most of the year, or if you really really really like ice and snow, this would be a good place to be. Just make sure you have a good security system. Read Less
The Unique Town of Cheektowaga, NY User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 27, 2010) I visited Cheektowaga in New York in 2008 because my long-distance boyfriend was a citizen of the town. At first the town seemed uneventful, but overtime I realized the beauty found within its borders. First of all, the culture of Cheektowaga is absolutely amazing, full of variet ...Read More y and rich historical backgrounds. 40% of Cheektowaga is Polish American, and another huge percent is Seneca Native American. The townsfolk are wonderfully kind and offer fascinating information about their cultural background, as well as the history of Cheektowaga itself.

Cheektowaga has all the essentials; a night club, a flea market, malls, and various other venues such as the Dollar General and restaurants. However, the town has gone through some troubles. Businesses have closed down at exponential rates, causing many to flee the area to more financially thriving cities. But Cheektowaga redeems itself with income coming from its local college, Villa Maria, and it's more than safe atmosphere.

Visitors will easily find things to do through out the town, be it entertaining or family-driven. Cheektowaga has a town park, which includes a digital billboard that showcases an official schedule of daily activities. The town also has a golf course, as well as live sports, luxurious movie theaters, and nature walks. Read Less
