City has a monopoly on internet service User Rating 1 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 18, 2020) The city only has one Internet Service Provider (Swiftel) which is partly owned by the city, an apparent conflict of interest. You pay double what you would pay at neighboring states because they force you to accept a landline even though you do not need it. The weather is horrib ...Read More le and the people here are mostly artificial and only nice to you if they know they can use you. One store (Bargains On Main ) proudly displays Nazi memorabilia and is most likely a White Supremacist. The parks are not well maintained as well. The state did not expand it's Medicaid program so if you are single with no children you will be denied Medicaid even if you are low income, which the majority of neighboring states do not do. McCrory Gardens is a nice public park to visit if you enjoy being outside. In my opinion, it's the best area in Brookings. The city has an alright selection of stores and restaurants, but you'll have to drive elsewhere if you're looking for a mall or an upscale restaurant.

Buying a home here is reasonably affordable. It's not the best city for people looking to start a career, but if you are at the point in your life when you want to settle down in a quiet city, then Brookings might be a good choice for you. Read Less
