Cheap and close to the City! 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 10, 2018) Blue Island, Illinois is a suburb of Chicago located near the city's south side. Blue Island is a very culturally diverse community with a lot to offer in terms of cultural exposure. The city used to be a better place to live than it is now, with crime having risen in recent year ...Read More s. Blue Island's public school system is decent at best, with high student to teacher ratios getting in the way of quality education. The shopping and nightlife in Blue Island isn't worth writing home about.

With that being said, however, Blue Island is located very close to Chicago and is not far away from many dining and shopping options, as well as other luxuries you'd find in a more suburban community. The community of Blue Island can feel inclusive at times and exclusive at other times. This is likely due to the recent rise in crime and the damaged trust among neighbors.

Overall, Blue Island is a great place to live if you're looking for an inexpensive option to living in the city, but still want to be close to more urban conveniences. Read Less
